CMA FAQ's

CMA - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where is CMA located?

CMA is located at Berkshire East Mountain Resort, 66 Thunder Mountain Road, Charlemont, MA 01339.
Our academic and team facilities are conveniently situated near the slopes, allowing student-athletes to move seamlessly between classroom learning and on-hill training throughout the day.

2. Is Charlemont Mountain Academy part of Berkshire East Mountain Resort?

Charlemont Mountain Academy (CMA) is a privately operated, nonprofit organization that is independent from Berkshire East Mountain Resort. While our athletes train at Berkshire East, CMA is a separate entity with its own coaching staff, academic program, and administration. Our location at the mountain provides access to world-class terrain, while CMA independently manages its curriculum, operations, and athlete development programs.

3. What age groups does CMA serve?

CMA currently offers programs for athletes ages 6–14, including:

  • Full-Time Program (U12 & U14) – weekday training combined with CMA’s hybrid academic program.

  • Friday-Only Program (U12 & U14) – one full day of focused training while staying enrolled in participants home school.

  • Friday-Only Devo Program (ages 6–9) – a fun, structured introduction to ski racing and skill development.

4. How does the academic program work?

CMA partners with Apex Learning®, a fully accredited academic platform. Students begin the school year at their home school, transition to CMA’s hybrid program for the winter season, and return in the spring with coursework aligned and credits transferable.
Academics are supported through CMA teachers, on-site study halls, tutoring, and regular communication among CMA mentors, Apex coordinators, and home-district educators.

5. What is the program schedule for the winter season?

The program begins in early December and runs through the mid March.
Optional April training trips to Northern Vermont are available for athletes who want to extend their season and continue skill development.

6. Are housing or local lodging options available?

CMA does not currently offer on-site housing. However, there are multiple local lodging options in Charlemont and nearby towns such as Shelburne Falls and Greenfield. We’re happy to recommend local inns, rentals, and family-friendly accommodations for visiting athletes.

7. What does a typical training day look like?

A typical weekday for full-time students includes morning on-snow training followed by afternoon academics and conditioning.
Friday-only athletes train from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with coaching blocks focused on skill development, gate work, and technical drills.
Schedules may vary slightly based on weather, race schedules, and athlete groups.

8. What equipment or gear is required?

Athletes should have age-appropriate race skis, boots, helmet, goggles, and protective gear.
CMA provides detailed gear recommendations and equipment checklists by age and discipline before the start of each season.

9. How does CMA support athlete wellness and safety?

Wellness is a cornerstone of CMA’s philosophy. We emphasize mental health, nutrition, rest, and physical conditioning alongside ski performance. Our staff maintains a safe, supportive environment, and we coordinate with families on health forms, medical clearances, and individual needs before the season begins.
